For Your First Trip . . .Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his/her 1st birthday. Whether this is your child's first visit to a dentist or this is a visit to a new dentist, it is important that your child feels comfortable and begins developing a trusting rapport with the Doctor and staff. The first visit is designed to gain your child's confidence and trust. This trust is as important as the actual treatment itself. Please be aware that your own attitude and positive example are very important to influencing your child's feelings about their dental visits, so please don't hesitate to ask questions. Your smiling face will give your child added confidence. It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as "needle", "shot", "pull", "drill" or "hurt". The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child. If your child is very young, he will be examined by the dentist while in the loving arms of a parent. The goal is to have your child be as comfortable as possible during the exam and make their first experience a positive one. We invite you to stay with your child during the initial examination and during future visits. We do suggest allowing your child to accompany our staff through the dental experience if he is old enough as we can usually establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present. Our purpose is to gain your child's confidence and overcome apprehension. However, if you choose, you may come with your child to the treatment room. For the safety and privacy of all patients, other children who are not being treated should remain in the reception room with a supervising adult. We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
